London Shock 2023
Invitation
Dear Colleague
In spite of major advances in emergency cardiac care, significant numbers of patients suffer circulatory failure with a high and over the years unchanged mortality in spite of timely revascularisation when appropriate. Immediate and effective resuscitation and successful management of circulatory shock therefore represent a key unmet medical need.
Indeed, although mortality for heart attack patients presenting in a stable condition has declined significantly in the last decades from over 50% to around 3-5%, patients presenting with cardiogenic shock after resuscitation still have a poor outcome with an in-hospital mortality of 40-50% and a significant rate of major cardiovascular events during follow up.
Thus, education and research in the field of cardiogenic shock are of paramount importance, starting at the first onset of symptoms to hospital arrival and acute interventional and medical management. The London Shock meeting now in its 6th edition has aimed since inception to bring together an international faculty of experts with a particular focus on clinical networks and pathways of care as well as on the most recent therapeutic options in the management of cardiogenic shock.
We look forward to welcome you at the Royal Society of Medicine in central London this coming October.
