The University of Zurich is one of the leading research universities in Europe and offers the widest range of courses in Switzerland. The seven faculties of the University of Zurich are responsible for research, teaching and public services in their relevant fields. 24 000 students attend the University of Zurich which is the largest university in Switzerland.

The University of Zurich is internationally oriented and maintains contact with educational institutes throughout the world. Students and researchers benefit from scientific and academic cooperation in many ways.

Twelve scientists of the University of Zurich were awarded the Nobel Prize. Their achievements have contributed considerably towards establishing the scientific reputation of the university.

Center for Molecular Cardiology

The Center for Molecular Cardiology headed by PD Dr. Giovanni G. Camici is part of the Clinic of Cardiology at the University Hospital Zürich. The Center is composed by several research groups each focusing on different aspects of translational research in cardiovascular physiology, namely:

  • Molecular mechanisms underlying myocardial infarction as well as HDL dysfunction
  • Atherothrombosis in genetically modified mice and translates these findings to the clinical context in patients with acute coronary syndromes
  • Pathogenesis of vascular aging and stroke with particular emphasis on aging of systemic vs cerebral arteries
  • Mechanisms of heart-specific autoimmunity and progression of postinflammatory cardiomyopathy
  • Cardioprotective effects of alpha linolenic acid and platelets
