Simon Kraler has received the Research Prize 2023 for his work on ‘Residual Cardiovascular Risk in Acute Coronary Syndromes’
Congratulations to Dr. Simon Kraler and his team for receiving the prestigious Research Prize of the Swiss Society of Cardiology for his work on residual risk in patients with acute coronary syndromes. Indeed, the residual cardiovascular risk of patients with a recent acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains substantial, with 1 out of 20 patients receiving novel cardiovascular agents on top of standard-of-care therapy having a recurrent ischemic event within one year after the ACS.
The research of Dr. med. Simon Kraler and his team focuses on (i) the identification and characterization of novel targets that reflect increased cardiovascular risk (1, 2, 3) and (ii) the improvement of established risk prediction models using advanced modelling approaches, including machine learning. This approach aims to provide novel therapeutic targets as well as feasible tools for objective risk assessment which may collectively open novel avenues to lessen the burden of residual cardiovascular risk in patients with a recent ACS. Congratulations to the whole team!
